Dental Care Tips for Invisalign Wearers
Because Invisalign aligners are removable, dental care during treatment is very similar to when you are not receiving orthodontic treatment at all. However, some differences exist and are important to note. Here are some tips to keep your teeth and gums healthy during Invisalign treatment.
Brush and Floss Every Day
Be sure to brush and floss your teeth thoroughly every day during Invisalign treatment. In particular, clean your teeth after consuming anything other than water and before putting your aligners back on. This way, you can also minimize risks that plaque will build up on your aligners and potentially impact your oral health for a sustained period.
Clean Your Aligners Daily
Keeping your aligners clear of grime is also key to oral care during Invisalign treatment. Every day, clean your aligners by hand using lukewarm water, mild dish soap, and a soft-bristled toothbrush. Never use toothpaste, which contains abrasives that could scratch your aligners, making them less discreet. Also avoid using hot water, which can warp the thin, delicate aligners permanently and make replacement necessary. For the same reason, do not clean your aligners using a dishwasher.
None of the special techniques for brushing and flossing with metal braces are required when you choose Invisalign, which uses removable aligners. However, you will still benefit from being strict with your oral health regimen throughout treatment.
