Important Vitamins for Your Oral Health

Vitamins A and D
These fat-soluble vitamins work together to build and maintain bones and teeth. Vitamin A is also necessary for healthy, soft oral tissues and saliva production. Vitamin D is most often obtained from sun exposure and fortified products, while vitamin A is readily available from liver. Eggs and cod liver oil contains both of these vitamins.
Vitamins B1, B3 and B9, also called folate, are important for gum health. In addition, these vitamins and several other B vitamins are integral to preventing tongue inflammation. Eggs, liver, potatoes, peanut butter, sesame seed butter and nuts are amongst the best sources of B vitamins.
Gum disease is often one of the first symptoms to appear in people with vitamin C deficiency. While it is important for tissue development, vitamin C also plays a part in the repair of the teeth and gums. Citrus fruits and rose hips are some of the richest sources of this vitamin.
This vitamin is less well-known than other vitamins, but it is vital to the production and maintenance of bones and teeth. This is due to its role in helping the body deposit calcium where it is needed. The best sources of vitamin K include green leafy vegetables, soy, cheese and liver.
